About birds: Have you run across an app called Merlin? It identifies bird calls all over the world, depending on what you want. Run by Cornell University bird studies. I’ve used it in USA and Japan, much of Europe, etc. Yesterday, for example, I heard eight different birds tell each other a hawk or eagle was overhead (well, that’s what I decided they were saying after I saw the big one drifting above us).
"...the middle way has always been something of a quixotic goal. Now, it’s an imperative."
I came to this conclusion in my late thirties or early 40s, after years of dealing with depression, while I was raising young children. I would breathe and remind myself to stay on an even keel. The Zen concept of something being not easy, not hard. It makes common sense, but somehow we human beings tend to swerve into ecstasies or pits. Well, some of us do. For me, few ecstasies, many pits. Now I do not have that dramatic element in my life. Do I miss it? I thought I would--but I don't. The middle way, it turns out, has many joys. Smaller joys but more lasting ones. Keep practicing, Ren.

I use BirdNet. I think it's the same. I love it.
Have a great week!
You too!
